Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson’s arena effort has landed a trio of heavyweight helpers.
Local political consultants Brian Brokaw, Aaron McLear and Josh Ginsburg volunteered this week to mobilize support ahead of a March 1 deadline for arena proponents to have a financing plan in place.
Brokaw was campaign manager for California Attorney General Kamala Harris and has worked as a consultant with labor and business organizations. McLear served as press secretary for former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. McLear’s consultancy partner Ginsburg worked as Schwarzenegger’s political director.
Brokaw said he will work for free for the mayor’s Think Big Sacramento task force, focusing on building support before several key City Council discussions and potential arena votes next month.
“Our strengths are building networks,” Brokaw said. “We’ll do whatever they (at Think Big Sacramento) ask.”
The Think Big group effort is financed by local businesses supportive of a new downtown arena.
